ABOUT THE COACHES

Tammy - Tammy is a new assistant coach to the team, also she is the new aquatic director for the club now that Bev has retired. She is a former swimmer for the team and has a great ability to help run the team and help make everyone on the team stronger as a swimmer. This is her first year with us and we are glad to have her for the 2008-2009 season!
Tom Dilorio- Tom has been the swim coach for the past 13 years. Tom is now the head coach of the Penguins Swim Team for his second year! We are glad that he loves being with the team and we hope to have him as our coach for many years more!

ABOUT THE SWIM TEAM

The size of the swim team consists of 50 - 60 swimmers between the ages of about 6 and 18. Every year the team starts off with a meet called the Black and White meet. At this meet the coaches split the swimmers into 2 teams the black team and the white team to get the swimmers motivated for the up coming season. The swimmers show team work, sportsmanship, and dedication which are the qualities the coach hopes to see from the swimmers through out the swim season!

ABOUT THE FACILITY
WE GOT A NEW POOL!! The pool room has been redone for the 2006-2007 swim season! We got our floor redone, the pool redone, and a new system for it! Also we got new diving blocks!!!

WHAT IS A RIMA MEET?

RIMA stands for Rhode Island/Massachusetts Swim League. This is a dual meet league that all swimmers participate in throughout the year. All swimmers are entered into the meet automatically unless their name appears on the appropriate sign-out sheet. A week and half before a meet, a sighn-out sheet will be posted on the bulletin boards upsatirs and down. Its is the job of the swimmers parents to check there names off the list if they will not be attending the meet. You can also indicate on the list if you need to leave early or will be comming in late. If something comes up the day of the meet you need to contact a coach by phone. Swimmers must complete three dual meets in order to swim in the RIMA Championships at the end of the year. There are no extra fees associated with the league, with the exception of a small entry fee due at the time of the Championship Meet.(for more info click the swim meet link at the top of the page!)

WHAT IS A USS MEET?

USS stands for United States Swimming. These meets typically require more of a commitment from the parents and swimmers. All swimmers are encouraged to compete in USS meets, but parents must deposit money in escrow accounts to cover the cost of events. Any swimmer, whose goals include competing at N.E Championship meets, must compete in USS meets in order to have the opportunity to achieve the cut times necessary. Parents should consult personally with the coach regarding these meets if you are unsure about whether or not your swimmer should be entered. Sign-ups: Meet entries are due to host clubs roughly 4-6 weeks before the meet date. When a meet has been entered, all information will be posted. Parents will be responsible for all USS information including events, warm-up times and sessions, which will all be posted. If you are not on deck by the assigned warm-up times you will be scratched.(for more info click the Uss Meet link at the top of the page!)
